What’s Happening Around bumblebird

cropped-bb1.jpgBumblebird blog is now about ten months old. Since it’s beginning, I’ve realized there is much more to blogging than just writing. I’ve learned a lot about things that only a year ago I didn’t have the slightest familiarity with; CSS coding, plug-ins, widgets, and hyperlinks, to name a few. I’ve also had to learn about things like copyright issues, content marketing, and SEO. If I’d had any idea how much I didn’t know I may never have been ambitious enough to start blogging in the first place. I started because I love to write, but I would say that less than 50% of blogging for someone who works alone is the actual writing.

But I’ve also experienced some pleasant surprises, too. The blogging community is, by far, one of the most helpful and supportive groups of people I’ve ever been involved with. John F. Kennedy said, “A rising tide lifts all boats” and that is a great descriptor for the community I’ve become a part of. Many bloggers are happy to share their platforms with other bloggers, which is mutually beneficial. And any problems or questions are generally quickly answered by this helpful group of people. There have been many times, especially in the beginning, where I have been extremely discouraged with my writing and there has always been someone who encouraged me with some much-needed advice or kind words.

I am also excited by the many new opportunities that have emerged in our world in recent years. For several years I’ve wanted to work from home but lacked the ability to do so. Now, with so much information online, possibilities have opened up for many people that simply didn’t exist before.

On that note, I have chosen to focus more on freelance writing. This does not mean I will be giving up on bumblebird. You will still see about two posts a month from me (and let’s face it, that’s about what I’ve been doing the last few months, anyway). But you will notice a couple of other changes around here, as well. Don’t worry, I’ve decided against advertising on my blog at the present time. I love that you can trust the sincerity of my opinions and if I ever do run ads in the future there would be careful consideration as to what I can honestly promote without compromising my integrity. But one of the things I have been doing is considering freebie options to make available to you. I appreciate all of my loyal followers and I’m looking at things I can provide that will help you focus on what’s important to you in your own life. So, stay tuned for those!

There’s one other major project I’m working on but at present I’m only in the very beginning stages. It’s something I’m excited about and hope you will be, too. As soon as I have the ball rolling on that one, I’ll give you some details. For now, all I can tell you is that this project is in line with the thoughts and values you’ve seen here at bumblebird. I want to help you find meaning in the mundane of your life and I’m developing new ways to do that.

So, for all of you who have been following me these last ten months, Thank You. I hope you’ve enjoyed at least some of the things you’ve read here. For those of you who have left comments, I want you to know how much I appreciate it. My vision for this blog was always to create and engage a community of people who believed some of the same things I do and challenged my thoughts on others and your comments are the best way for me to do that. And if any of you are interested in writing for me yourself, please get in touch. I haven’t featured any guest posts yet but if your writing is in line with my focus, then I would love to have you join me in writing for bumblebird.

If you haven’t already, please sign up to receive email notifications from me. It’s the best way to keep in touch with what’s going on around here!

May your coffee be strong and your burdens be light,

Andrea
